Lesser known excellent artists

More Information (WCR FM is not responsible for external websites)

Chantal considers some of the many reasons for a good artist’s obscurity, from the brevity of his life to the misfortune of his being born and working in the shadow of a larger reputation, such as Leonardo or Rembrandt. But above all it is an excuse to spend an hour viewing beautiful paintings and finding hidden treasures.

Lecturer: Chantal Brotherton Radcliffe

Chantal has an MA in History of Art from Edinburgh and a PhD from the Warburg Institute, London University. With 40 years’ experience as a lecturer, Chantal has taught at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and as a lecturer for a number of societies and institutions in London, including the National Gallery and the Wallace Collection.

About the Society

Across the UK, Ireland and large parts of the world, like-minded people regularly meet monthly to enjoy lectures and talks on the arts. They are members of local Arts Societies and I have the privilege of being the Chairman of The Arts Society Wolverhampton. We are a vibrant and lively society and in addition to our monthly meetings we arrange at least one other activity for our members each month. These activities could include visits to local museums, galleries or historic houses, longer trips, study days and special lectures. You will find our calendar of upcoming events on this website.

If you are not already a member, why not come along to one of our regular meetings, you will find we give a warm welcome to new visitors. We meet in the afternoon of the second Monday of each month at the main auditorium of Wolverhampton Science Park just off Stafford Road. Our programme of monthly lectures can also be found on this website.

You will also enjoy the social side of meeting people with similar interests, make new friends and develop some new interests in areas that you had never thought of before.

We meet every second Monday of the month at 1.30pm. Our meetings are held at the main auditorium of the Technology Centre, Wolverhampton Science Park, Wolverhampton WV10 9RU (just off Stafford Road).
